Great Bend recently received notification that their application for the Fiscal Year 2023 Communities Connection Link Program (CCLIP) was approved by the Kansas Department of Transportation. The project will mill and overlay K-96 Highway from 10th Street to Patton Road.
With a KDOT funding agreement forthcoming, the Great Bend City Council approved an agreement with PEC for design and construction administration for a cost of $34,800.
After approving the agreement, councilmember Cory Urban emphasized the importance of getting these partially KDOT funded overlays correct after seeing issues with the resurfacing on east 10th Street.
Director of Public Works Jason
Cauley said east 10th is seeing issues related to the street base
and the city is working with Venture Corporation on possible solutions.
"Crack sealing would prevent any more moisture from getting into the cracks, especially with the cold season coming up," said Cauley. "But most of that is base issues. Unfortunately, when you start redoing the whole base, the cost becomes extremely expensive."
The total CCLIP project cost for the mill and overlay of K-96 is $534,183. The
project is funded 90% by KDOT up to $300,000. The grant requires a 10% local
match. Great Bend’s portion of the project will come from federal exchange
funds.
