The Big Ten announced Maryland men’s basketball conference schedule for the upcoming season. After finishing 17-14 and making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament during a pandemic-filled campaign last season, the Terps officially know their Big Ten slate for the 2021-22 season in which they are expected to be a top team in the conference.

The Terps will kick off their Big Ten schedule with a home matchup against Northwestern on Dec. 5. The battle with the Wildcats will be the Terps’ first Big Ten home game, and Maryland will also have home contests against Wisconsin (Jan. 9), Rutgers (Jan. 15), Illinois (Jan. 21), Indiana (Jan. 29), Michigan State (Feb. 1), Iowa (Feb. 10), Penn State (Feb. 21), Ohio State (Feb. 27) and Minnesota (Mar. 2).

Maryland’s road games in 2021-22 will come against Iowa (Jan. 3), Illinois (Jan. 6), Northwestern (Jan. 12), Michigan (Jan. 18), Rutgers (Jan. 25), Ohio State (Feb. 6), Purdue (Feb. 13), Nebraska (Feb. 18), Indiana (Feb. 24) and Michigan State (Mar. 6). The matchup with Michigan State will be Maryland’s last game of the regular season.

The Big Ten Tournament will be held from March 9-13 in Indianapolis, Ind., the conference also announced.

Outside of the program’s Big Ten schedule, Maryland will face quality nonconference opponents as well. Some of the nonconference matchups the Terps will have include games against Richmond, Hofstra, Virginia Tech and Florida.

The Terps are returning starters Donta Scott and Eric Ayala, while also adding an abundance of new talent such as transfer Fatts Russell from Rhode Island and big man Qudus Wahab from Georgetown.

With its returning players and transfers added, Maryland is projected to be near the top of the Big Ten when the season rolls around in early November.
