Joey Votto had an unforgettable moment with a 10-year-old Reds fan battling cancer

When it comes to making positive impacts on young fans, Reds first baseman Joey Votto is one of the best in baseball. He consistently proves that with class.

During Tuesday night’s broadcast of the Reds-Cubs game, the Bally Sports crew shared a video interaction from a few days earlier at Great American Ball Park. Votto had invited 10-year-old Evan Roach of Cincinnati to the game as his guest. Evan — a huge Reds fan — is battling cancer.

And Votto didn’t stop at just inviting Roach to the game. He made the extra effort to get to know Evan, which was awesome. The broadcast aired an exchange between Votto and Evan that took place before Votto’s first at-bat. It was so good.

Votto went up to Evan and his family and said, “You stay here, and we will talk all game.” He also added, “If you have any advice, I’d really like it too.”

Votto also had several of his Reds teammates provide gifts and sign autographs for Evan.

That’s how it should be done. It’s the kind of moment you love to see.
