The “Year of the Cat” will have to wait until next year.

Recording artist Al Stewart is postponing his scheduled appearance at The Palace Theatre Sept. 15 due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Al Stewart has postponed all of his 2021 shows. He just does not feel safe going out on tour right now,” said Steve Chapman of Chapman & Co. Management.

Stewart’s Sept. 15 show has been rescheduled for April 16, 2022. All tickets for the original date will be honored for the new date. Any ticketholders having a conflict with the new date must contact the Palace Theatre Box Office for ticketing options by 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Jennifer Benford, director of marketing & development for the Westmoreland Cultural Trust, which operates the Palace, said tickets will remain valid for ticketholders who fail to contact the venue by that date. The box office is available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by email at boxoffice@wctrust.net or by phone at 724-836-8000.

This is the third time the pandemic has forced Stewart to postpone a concert scheduled at the Greensburg venue. He had originally been set to perform there on Oct. 15, 2020. That show was postponed until April 29, 2021, and then rescheduled for next Wednesday.

The Glasgow, Scotland-born Stewart, who turned 76 earlier this month, had several hit songs in the 1970s including “Year of the Cat” and “Time Passages,” both charting in the top 10 in the U.S.

Stewart has also built a reputation as a songwriter who sets historical stories to music. They include “Nostradamus,” “Roads to Moscow” and “On the Border.”
