Royal Opera House Announces Cast Change for ‘Jenůfa’

The Royal Opera House has announced that Saimir Pirgu will sing the role of Števa Buryja in teh company’s upcoming production of “Jenůfa” replacing the originally scheduled Andrew Staples.

Pirgu made his Royal Opera debut in 2007 as Rinuccio in “Gianni Schicchi” and has since performed in productions of “La traviata,” “Rigoletto,” and Shepherd “Król Roger.” He has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, and Gran Teatre del Liceu, among others.

The tenor will join a cast that includes Asmik Grigorian, Karita Mattila, Nicky Spence, and Elena Zilio. The new production will be directed by Claus Guth and will be conducted by Henrik Nánási.

“Jenůfa” opens on Sept. 28 and runs through Oct. 12, 2021.
