Spieth is a former Masters, U.S. Open, and British Open champion.  Finau played on the U.S. Ryder Cup team that lost to Europe in 2018.  Schauffele is the reigning Olympic gold medalist (won in August in Japan).  Berger, English, and Scheffler are all first-timers to the Ryder Cup.

They will join British Open champ Collin Morikawa, 2020 Masters champion Dustin Johnson, four-time major champion Brooks Koepka, 2020 U.S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau, current Players Champion Justin Thomas, and current FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay.

Team Europe won the Ryder Cup in France three years ago  17 1/2 to 10 1/2.  But the two sides have split the last six matches.

Former major champions Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson were left off the squad.
