Netflix has released the first trailer and new images from upcoming all-star comedy Don't Look Up.

The new movie, out on Christmas Eve on Netflix, centres on astronomy grad student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor Dr Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) who discover a comet is on a direct collision course with Earth.

Sounds like the perfect disaster movie 'save the world' setup, right? Well, the problem is that nobody seems to really care, so the pair team up with Dr Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan) to carry out a media tour from the White House to an upbeat morning show called The Daily Rip.

With only six months until the comet makes a catastrophic impact on Earth, can they manage the 24-hour news cycle and get the social media-obsessed public to look up before it's too late?

DiCaprio and Lawrence are already a formidable lead pairing, but Don't Look Up also boasts a cast that includes Meryl Streep as US President Janie Orlean, Jonah Hill as her son and chief-of-staff Jason and Cate Blanchett as a morning show host.

The all-star cast is rounded out with (deep breath) Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis and Tomer Sisley.

And if all of those names are still not enough, writer/director Adam McKay has revealed to EW that Don't Look Up also features Chris Evans in a "very funny" cameo: "I won't give away who he plays but he does pop up in the movie."

Christmas has proven to be a popular time for Netflix to release a major starry movie with Don't Look Up following 2020's The Midnight Sky, 2019's 6 Underground and 2018's Bird Box.

We're sure this will be just as popular as that trio this year.

Don't Look Up is released on Netflix on December 24 and in UK cinemas on December 10.
