A Marion man has been arrested and charged after authorities say he engaged in sex crimes with a child.

Matthew Hughes, 40, was taken into custody by investigators with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Hughes is charged with one count of felony indecent liberties with a child.

Authorities haven’t released much on the case, just saying their investigation showed Hughes had inappropriate sexual contact with an underaged female acquaintance.

Hughes' first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021.
