UPDATE: Pedestrian fighting for life, suspect detained after hit-and-run on Los Reales Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A pedestrian is now fighting for their life after being struck on Los Reales Road and Camino Libertad on Sep. 7.

According to officials, 38-year-old Robert Valenzuela was driving westbound on Los Reales Road when he struck a pedestrian. Valenzuela fled from the scene and continued west. He then failed to turn and went off the road, striking a utility pole. He left the vehicle and was detained by police while walking from the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing. Police say criminal charges are pending.
