NBC Sports adds new NFL streaming show after 'Sunday Night Football' to air on Peacock

NBC Sports will produce and debut a new postgame show this weekend following "Sunday Night Football."

A person with knowledge of the program told USA TODAY Sports that the new show, "Peacock Sunday Night Football Final," will be hosted by Kathryn Tappen and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms and will stream live exclusively on Peacock throughout the 2021 season, starting with Sunday’s matchup between the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams.

"Football Night in America" commentators will also appear on the program to provide recaps and analysis of the day’s top NFL storylines.

"Sunday Night Football" has been network television's top-rated show in each of the past 10 years, but there is little concern about the audience switching over to the streaming service for more NFL content.

"We are coming on the air late at night on the East Coast," said Tappen, who has hosted and reported on hockey, the Olympics and Notre Dame football. "People have been home all day watching football. The mental fatigue has probably kicked in, so we got to keep people interested and engaged."

Chris Simms and Kathryn Tappen will co-host a new postgame show following "Sunday Night Football."

The show will try to accomplish that with interviews and highlights interspersed with analysis but will also allow the hosts to provide energy by showing their personalities. What you won't see is anything like the Peacock commentary series during the Tokyo Olympics that was co-hosted by actor/comedian Kevin Hart and rap artist Snoop Dogg, which was heavy on profanity.

"No swearing," Simms said. "But it’s not going to be like we're so regimented. It's going to be more of like, 'let’s have fun'." We are going to talk football, have some laughs and be different from your normal postgame show."

Each show will run for about an hour but will not air following Thursday’s NFL kickoff between the Dallas Cowboys and defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the network’s Thanksgiving night game on Nov. 25, pitting the Buffalo Bills against the New Orleans Saints.
