Arsenal 'reject bid for Mohamed Elneny from Galatasaray' on deadline day in Turkey with Mikel Arteta convinced of his value to squad

• He fell out of favour under Unai Emery but has improved under Arteta  

Arsenal 'have turned down a bid for Mohamed Elneny from Galatasaray' on Turkey's transfer deadline day. 

Mikel Arteta sees the Egyptian midfielder as an important part of his plans this season and the north London club are opting not to sell, according to Sky Sports. 

Elneny only has one year remaining on his current contract and Galatasaray could yet return with an improved offer. 

The 29-year-old is one of the most improved players at Arsenal under Arteta having signed for the club from Basel in 2016.

He fell down the pecking order under Unai Emery but enjoyed a revival with Arteta in charge, playing in 41 games last season in all competitions. 

He spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Besiktas so is familiar with the Turkish top flight. 

But it seems the Gunners are likely to keep hold of Elneny and Arteta will need players he can rely on in the weeks ahead. 

It has been a dreadful start to the season for Arsenal, who suffered defeat on opening day by newly-promoted Brentford before losing at home to Chelsea and then suffering a hammering at Manchester City. 

The international break will have brought much soul searching at the Emirates and fans are desperate for an upturn in fortunes.

Summer signings including Takehiro Tomiyasu,Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard are hoped to breathe new life into the team.   

And anything other than a win against Norwich at home this Saturday would be disastrous.
