Morning Report: Tyron Woodley says he’s waiting on ‘paperwork’ before he gets ‘I love Jake Paul’ tattoo

Tyron Woodley is still angling for a rematch with Jake Paul, though it appears that is not trending well for “The Chosen One.”

Two weeks ago, Woodley faced Paul in a highly anticipated cruiserweight boxing match that saw Paul walk away with a split-decision win. Immediately after the decision was read, Woodley confronted Paul, saying he should have gotten the decision and calling for a rematch. Paul in turn stipulated that if Woodley got the “I Love Jake Paul” tattoo that had been discussed before their fight, he would agree to a rematch however, in a recent Instagram Live (h/t FightHype), Woodley revealed that getting a commitment from Paul on a rematch is proving difficult.

“We called his manager, we called him,” Woodley said. “I think somebody just got to him, ‘Man, just take it and run, man. You didn’t win the fight, man. They said you won but don’t f*cking get back in there with him.’ Because I’m the type of motherf*cker where if you let me get another time to fight you and I get a chance to break you down, it’s problems.”

Since his victory, Paul has been all over the place with his intentions, at one point suggesting he was retired but quickly un-retiring and then offering stipulations on the tattoo Woodley is supposed to get. And even though Woodley lost the original bet requiring him to get the tattoo, the former UFC welterweight champion now has a stipulation of his own: he’s not going to get the ink until there is a contract for the rematch.

“That tattoo situation, the original bet was the loser gets the tattoo,” Woodley said. “In the ring, a new bet was presented that, in my opinion, superseded the previous bet. That bet said if you get the tattoo then we can run it back. We both said ‘Bet’ and we shook hands. So that’s a bet I’m trying to facilitate and the rematch has to happen. If we get the paperwork, of course.

“You motherf*ckers have some dumbass tattoos on your bodies. Hella-dumb. For a nice bag, there’s nobody on this live that would tell me they would never do that.”

“The bag,” as Woodley puts it, it clearly one of the driving factors in his continued call outs of Paul. Woodley was paid $2 million for their fight and will also receive a portion of the pay-per-view, which last week Woodley said was trending towards 1 million buys (though no official reports have been released yet). Unfortunately for Woodley, Paul has no shortage of suitors in the combat sports game. Just this week, ‘BMF’ champion Jorge Masvidal signaled his interest in a bout with Paul as did middleweight contender Derek Brunson. But if Woodley can coax Paul into another fight, he believes that not just one more bag is on the way, but two.

“It’s all part of the story,” Woodley said. “This wouldn’t have been a trilogy. I’m gonna f*ck him up and then his pride’s gonna kick in and we’re gonna do it again and it’s gonna literally be a whole movie that people talk about for a very long time.”
