Manchester City Found a Killer Striker in Khadija Shaw

She is a goal-mouth assassin with a penchant for busting the opposition's net. And she is now with the best team to excel at the job. The scouts at Manchester City have hit the bull’s eye with this one. Unless, of course, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw fails spectacularly at the Academy Stadium.

That’s unlikely if things go according to plan. And the early signs are good. The Jamaican has brought the reggae vibes to the women’s team and it appears the team will dance a lot this season and in the foreseeable future.

After excelling with French Division 1 Feminine side Bordeaux, there was only one direction to go. Up. Manchester City swooped for the player and it’s already proving to be a great addition to the team.

Khadija emerged top scorer in the French league last term, beating even the star strikers paraded by Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon who are the dominant sides in the division.

Winning the Golden Boot earned her a place in the team of the season and rightfully so. She was the only player in the group not representing the top two teams.

A look at her numbers show just why. With 31 goals in 33 appearances for Bordeaux, those numbers associated with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haland in the men's game.

She is not just producing in club football. Having netted 42 goals in 30 matches for Jamaica, she is already the leading scorer for her country whether male or female. And she is still just 24.

That proves City have got a pure goal machine on their hands here.

Young, powerful and a lethal weapon in front of goal, she will be going head-to-head with the likes of Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr in the goal-scoring charts.

Playing alongside Ellen White will boost City’s attack, one that could have won the league title last term, with just one more goal against Chelsea. Gareth Taylor hopes to do better this time around and the club hierarchy is fully behind him.

Khadija is excited about the opportunity to file out for City. The Reggae Girl expressed her delight at joining City to the club’s website after the move.

“It feels amazing to be a Manchester City player. I chose this club because I want to be a part of the environment, the culture and to play for this amazing team,” she said.

“I want to be tested and there is so much experience in the team here, so I know I will learn a lot from everybody around me.

“I grew up as a City fan, and I even have some family members who live in Manchester – when I told them about my move, they were so happy and excited.

She also received a rousing welcome to the club from Jamaican-born Raheem Sterling whom she has been following for several years.

Having opened her goal account with a strike against Everton in the first WSL game of the season, it promises to be a great season ahead.
