That’s two in a row for the Buccos.

That’s two wins in a row now for our Pittsburgh Pirates. Ben Gamel had a huge night, making another highlight reel grab in the outfield that ended a potential Tigers scoring opportunity in the top of the sixth and then followed that up with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the inning to lead the Buccos to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

With the Bucs already down 2-1, Gamel crashed into the wall to steal one from Tigers hitter Derek Hill that would have certainly extended Detroit’s lead. It comes just two days after another spectacular catch against the Cubbies.

Then, in the bottom of the inning, Gamel hit a two-run single that wound up being the difference in the game.

That hit gave the win to reliever Sam Howard, while Chad Kuhl, David Bednar, and Chris Stratton finished out the game, with Stratton earning his third save of the season. Starter Dillon Peters went four innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Gamel finished 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs, while Ke’Bryan Hayes went 2-for-5 with a run scored. They were the only two multi-hit Pirates, though the Buccos banged out 11 hits on the day as a team.

The Tigers will return to PNC Park today for one more, and the Buccos will be looking to sweep, which will be a welcome site after that disastrous trip to Chicago. There’s another 6:35pm start, though there’s rain the local forecast today, so keep your fingers crossed.
