'The Witcher 3' Can Now Be Played In First-Person, And It Looks Absolutely Wild

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was not a game that was ever supposed to be played in first-person. CD Projekt RED's vast fantasy world was meticulously designed for third-person combat, puzzle solving, exploration, and the occasional stuffed unicorn dalliance. We should respect that.

Alternatively, we could also let a dedicated modder rip the game apart and essentially force it to become a first-person adventure. That works too, doesn't it? I rather think it does.

Take a look at our tour of The Witcher 3's Skellige region below!

As reported by DSO Gaming, ExtremeDotneting has been hard at work improving a previous first-person mod for The Witcher 3. The result is the aptly named First-Person Camera Reworked Mod, which solves many of the alarming bugs and other issues that would predictably occur upon trying to play a third-person game in the wrong perspective.

As you can see in the video below (or via this link), the mod still isn't quite perfect... by which I mean it's still really very rough. It's great for a bit of gentle exploration, but anything more than that and it starts to get a little intense. The combat, in particular, looks like it's still in incredibly rough shape. Honestly, for The Witcher 3's combat to work in first-person at all, it'd need to be reworked from the ground up. And who has time for that?

"The mod takes into account the errors of the mods First Person Improved and modFirstPerson," reads the description over on Nexus Mods. "Makes control more convenient and fixes some problems, such as displaying swords, crossbows, camera shifts during different actions (for example, attack or sprint), use of the witcher's instinct."

If you want to download and try the mod for yourself, you can so by heading here and following the installation instructions.
