Tyrod Taylor Named Starting QB for Houston Texans

The Houston Texans officially named former Virginia Tech Hokies superstar QB, Tyrod Taylor, as the starter for their 2021 season. Fellow ACC quarterback and Clemson Tigers standout, Deshaun Watson, who would normally be the starter for Houston, is embroiled in a mire of civil legal affairs. He requested a trade earlier this year, in January, so it is no surprise that Tyrod has been named the starter as the team looks for stability at the most important position.

Although Watson is technically on the Texans’ 53-man roster he is not expected to play this season. Taylor has spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and brings the athleticism and pedigree of a playoff quarterback to the field. Although he hasn’t started for an NFL team since 2020, his stint with Buffalo saw him lead the Bills to the playoffs, in 2017, for the first time since 1999. Taylor’s last foray into the playoffs resulted in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars during the Wildcard round. This weekend he again faces the Jaguars to open the 2021 Texans season.

Tyrod has been in the NFL for ten years now. In that time, he has played in 72 games, made 47 starts, tossed 54 touchdowns, thrown for 9,770 yards, and added 1,850 yards and 16 TDs on the ground.
