The Oakland City women’s soccer team won a game in just about the most dominating fashion imaginable Monday as they defeated Lincoln Christian University (Lincoln, Illinois) 20-1 at home.
The Lady Oaks scored 10 goals in each half of Monday’s Labor Day win and only allowed a goal when they had already built a 14-0 lead.
Sophomore Madison Nicolas led the way with four goals for the Lady Oaks, freshman Rachael Poneskis, fellow freshman Kennedy Hospelhorn and sophomore Alanna Doherty each had a hat trick with three goals and graduate student Becca Rutherford, senior Molly Knox and freshman Claudia Melgar each scored twice.
The other OCU goals were scored by Madison Ward, Kelsey Barrett and Maddie Myers.
Melgar led the team with three assists, followed by Hospelhorn and Doherty, who each had two.
In net, OCU goaltender Jillian Beem did not make a single save as Lincoln Christian’s lone shot on goal was scored by Audrey Henningsen in the second half.
With the dominant win, OCU is now 3-2 on the season. They’ll take on Berea College at South Spencer High School in Rockport Thursday at 7 p.m. CST.
