With a ton of drama surrounding the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott over the past few seasons, the stakes are now higher than ever to make a deep playoff run in 2021.

Now that Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have worked out a contract situation and he's set to be back as their starting quarterback next season, they're now primed for a long overdue Super Bowl run and have all the personnel necessary to achieve this in next season.

Especially with Ezekiel Elliot, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup coming back next year with a chip on their shoulders as they'll look to prove all the haters wrong and look pull a complete 180 from last season. Having said all this, let's take a look at the Cowboys' X-factor for the 2021 NFL season, and no, it's not Ezekiel Elliot.

Cowboys X Factor: Dak Prescott

Now that he's fully committed to Dallas long-term and coming back fully healthy and ready for a clean slate, the pressure will be higher than ever for Dak Prescott to deliver a Super Bowl to the lone star state. Especially after all the noise and commotion that he created all last season over his contract dispute and potentially wanting out of Dallas.

With all these issues squared away and a new and rejuvenated Prescott set to be back at quarterback for them, the Cowboys are looking to resurrect themselves as the team to beat in the NFC East. Not to mention they'll also have a top-notch defensive unit featuring Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, Tyron Smith, Malik Hooker, Demarcus Lawrence, Keanu Neal, Damontae Kazee, and Kelvin Joseph. With a complete rotation on both sides of the ball, the Cowboys are as good on paper as any team in the league.

However, if Prescott is unable to come through for them this season, then they've got some big issues to address. Given all they had to go through with Prescott over this past season, he's now under more pressure than ever to perform at a high level and lead this Cowboys team to a deep playoff run in 2021. Homefield advantage and a division title will mean absolutely nothing if Prescott fails to deliver for them when it counts the most.

When fully healthy, Dak Prescott is widely considered one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the game. Between his accuracy, arm strength, and mobility, he should be able to produce big play after big play for the Cowboys, especially considering all the talent he has been surrounded with on offense. There's no reason he can't continue to perform at an elite level moving forward.

Granted he was sidelined with a compound right ankle fracture and dislocation for all of last season, so it will take him a little time to get re-adjusted, but he's had a full year of rehab, rest, and recovery, and the entire 2021 offseason to prepare. So with all this in the rear view, he should be able to return to full playmaking form and lead this highly talent Dallas Cowboys team to the promised land next season.

Prescott has recently said that he feels he can comeback even stronger than before, so with that mindset and his wide array of skillsets, maybe the Cowboys will shock the world and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Dallas for the first time since Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, and Deion Sanders were in town.
