The Giants (88-50) have picked up right-handed reliever Jake Jewell off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced Tuesday.

Jewell, 28, was most recently waived by the Dodgers less than a week after they claimed him. He didn’t make a MLB appearance with LA.

Jewell has posted a 9.90 ERA this year in 10 innings of work with the Chicago Cubs, who DFA’d him Aug. 28. For the Iowa Cubs, Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate, Jewell posted a 2.78 ERA and a 35-to-13 strikeout to walk ratio in 32.1 innings.

Since making his MLB debut in 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels, Jewell has recorded a career ERA of 7.75 in 38.1 innings. The righty spent time with the Giants in 2020 during camp, but didn’t make the roster. Now he’ll have a chance to prove himself enough to join a Giants team that will need all the bullpen help it can get, with starters Alex Wood and Johnny Cueto sidelined for the foreseeable future.

The Giants take on the Rockies at Coors Field in the second game of a three-game series Tuesday evening. Logan Webb, who has emerged as an ace for SF, will take the mound.

Below is the full lineup for the Giants Tuesday:

Tommy La Stella, 2B
Brandon Belt, 1B
Buster Posey, C
LaMonte Wade Jr, LF
Brandon Crawford, SS
Evan Longoria, 3B
Mike Yastrzemski, RF
Steven Duggar, CF
Logan Webb, RHP
