The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its Verdi’s Requiem: The Met Remembers 9/11.

Mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung will replace Elīna Garanča, who is ill.

DeYoung last sang at the Metropolitan Opera in 2015 in a production of “Tannhäuser.” The mezzo made her Met debut in 1994 and has since performed with the company in productions of “Tristan und Isolde,” “The Ghost of Versailles,” “Aida,” “The Makropoulos Case,” “Les Troyens,” and “La Forza del Destino,” among others.

DeYoung will join a cast that includes Ailyn Pérez, Matthew Polenzani, and Eric Owens. Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

The Met also announced that the performance would be broadcast on Sirius XM and WQXR and would be shown on PBS with Misty Copeland hosting. There will also be live audio from the performance that will be broadcast directly outside the Met in Lincoln Center Plaza. As part of a citywide remembrance, the Met will be participating in the 9/11 Tribute in Light, bathing its façade in sky-blue light.

The English-language text of the Requiem will also be projected onto the façade of the opera house during the performance.
