Cheesecake Empori-Yum ready to shake up Montgomery on Saturday
In honor of National Chocolate Milkshake Day, there are shake specials planned; In August, they were named one of Alabama's 8 best milkshake makers

Though 2021's blazing summer is a couple of weeks from officially winding down, a cool treat that's always in order is a milkshake. That's especially true this weekend in Montgomery.
"The milkshakes are always insane," said Monique Williams, owner of The Cheesecake Empori-Yum, 1935 Mulberry St.
Sunday is National Chocolate Milkshake Day, and Cheesecake Empori-Yum is one of Alabama's eight best shake makers, according to an August report by soul-grown.com.
Because Cheesecake Empori-Yum is closed Sunday, Williams is planning a milkshake celebration Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
"We're going to have specials on our milkshakes, and we'll have a couple of chocolate flavors on top of that," said Williams, whose shop was established in Montgomery in 2016. "Stop by and get a treat."
Along with chocolate, milkshake flavors there include golden Oreo, strawberry, caramel frappe, red velvet, cookies & cream, and pecan pie.
"Our pecan pie one's really good," said Williams, whose shakes are also topped with whipped cream and a wedge of cheesecake.
So what makes a Cheesecake Empori-Yum chocolate shake, and Williams' other varieties, so special? Three basic ingredients: ice cream, cream and cheesecake!
"We always put a scoop of cheesecake in all of our milkshakes," Williams said. "We blend it together and it turns out really smooth. It gives it a heightened, luxurious kind of taste. A velvety taste that other milkshakes don't necessarily have."
More chocolate ahead
The nation's obsession with chocolaty goodness continues next month just before Halloween on Oct. 28 during National Chocolate Day. But you don't have to wait for a sweet treat.
"We usually have two chocolate flavors every day," said Williams, who uses a lot of chocolate in her creations. "That's going to be our chocolate Oreo, and our red velvet which has a chocolate Oreo crust. We usually have two or more other chocolate cheesecake flavors. I've had brownie cheesecake with chocolate ganache on top. We have a triple chocolate cheesecake."
She also utilizes a lot of different chocolate candy brands in her creations.
"We also have German chocolate," Williams said. "We have tons of varieties of chocolate."
