According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have been attracted to AC Milan star Theo Hernandez.

Theo Hernandez, 23, has mightily impressed for AC Milan since joining from Real Madrid in the summer of 2019, establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in Serie A. An attacking left-back, the former France under-20 international has registered 13 goals and 12 assists in Serie A across his first two campaigns.

As a result, this has put the 23-year-old defender on the radar of some of Europe’s elite clubs, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain both admirers of his talents, Calciomercato reports.

Hernandez has a contract at San Siro until 2024, but Milan would likely be able to make a profit on him were they to sell next year having signed him from Real Madrid for €20m.

Manchester City had a quiet summer transfer window, failing to sign a prolific striker after breaking the bank for Jack Grealish’s signature.

This means Pep Guardiola will have to wait until the transfer window reopens in January to add a centre-forward to his squad.

Much to everyone’s surprise, City were not in the market for a left-back—a position they last reinforced back in 2017 by securing the signing of Benjamin Mendy from AS Monaco for £52 million. However, Mendy has failed to live up to his hefty price tag due to a combination of serious injuries and chronic inconsistency. And now the Frenchman is suspended by the club for legal matters.

This has left Guardiola with Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko as the two options at left-back. While Cancelo and Zinchenko have performed admirably well in that position, it is high time for the City boss to bring in someone who will make the left-back spot his own for the best part of the decade.

To that end, Theo Hernandez would be a brilliant fit at the Etihad Stadium. At 23, Hernandez certainly has his best years ahead of him and could improve as a player under the watchful guidance of Guardiola.

While the report merely states that the Cityzens like Hernandez, Guardiola must persuade the club to table an offer for the flying French full-back when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
