Nimari Burnett injures knee, likely to miss 2021-22 season

Nate Oats assembled his deepest roster to date over the summer, and that depth is going to be tested in ways no one ever wanted. Former five-star guard Nimari Burnett, who transferred in from Texas Tech, has a knee injury that will likely cause him to miss the season.

Alabama has already had one player undergo knee surgery over the summer as forward James Rojas torean ACL and had surgery in June. Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats said recently that Rojas was making progress and could be back for the SEC season beginning in January 2022.

The early preseason schedule for the Crimson Tide, which might be down to 11 players depending on the final prognosis for Burnett, is one of the toughest in the nation.

The first concern, of course, is about Nimari’s health and future. Hopefully he is able to get it fixed and his rehab goes smoothly.

From a depth perspective, this one hurts. It’s a good thing that Jaden Shackelford decided to come back into the fold, because at this point only he, Keon Ellis and Darius Miles have any experience at the wing position. This likely increases the odds that point guards Jahvon Quinerly and J.D. Davison see the floor together more than expected, and freshman Jasuan Holt may have a cleaner path to early playing time than expected.
