The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra is right around the corner, with a reveal set for sometime this fall. Now, after Toyota officially revealed the TRD Pro version of the truck following multiple leaks online, we have our first look of the regular, non-TRD model.
The photo comes from one of our readers, Nick D, who snapped the new pickup completely undisguised in a parking lot. And from the looks of it, all the renderings we’ve seen in the past have been spot on, with the truck having the same T-shaped headlights, C-shaped taillights, kinked window, stamped fenders, and somewhat controversial full-height grille.

For this new Tundra, Toyota plans to make up for the aging outgoing model by giving it multiple dynamic and comfort-related upgrades, as well as more up-to-date tech and amenities. Based on the limited information Toyota has provided us with so far in their teasers, we know the new Tundra will have coil springs instead of leaf springs, a sliding rear window and panoramic moonroof, and a digital gauge cluster along with an updated infotainment system.

Also new for 2022 is the Tundra’s engine, which is speculated to eschew the V8 in favor of a V6. Called the “iForce MAX”, not much information has been provided on this engine, but Toyota North America told MotorTrend that it will make significantly more power than the outgoing 5.7L V8’s 381 hp (386 PS / 284 kW) and 401 lb-ft (544 Nm) of torque. All signs seem to point to it being similar to, if not the same as, the Land Cruiser’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which makes 409 hp (415 PS / 305 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque.
Additionally, at their event at their Texas headquarters this past June, the Japanese automaker mentioned that they plan to “bring electrification to its pickup truck lineup in the near future”, which means we could also be seeing a hybrid Tundra in the lineup.
At this point, we’ve now got a pretty good idea of what the 2022 Tundra will be like, now all that’s left is the official unveiling before the year’s end.
