The American League East has four teams in playoff contention, but only three postseason spots up for grabs. That means someone will be left on the outside looking in.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden tweeted his predictions for the rest of the way:

Division Winners: Rays, White Sox, Astros, Braves, Brewers, Dodgers

Wild-card teams: Yankees, Blue Jays, Giants, Reds

That means Bowden believes the Boston Red Sox, who currently trail the New York Yankees by just a half-game for the top American League wild-card spot, will be scheduling early tee times.

The Red Sox currently own a three-game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners for the second American League wild-card spot.

Here’s how Bowden’s predictions for the American League East teams compare to FanGraphs’ latest playoff odds:

Tampa Bay Rays

Make playoffs: 100%

Win division: 96.4%

Win wild card: 3.6%

New York Yankees

Make playoffs: 82.4%

Win division: 2.3%

Win wild card: 80.1%

Boston Red Sox

Make playoffs: 80.0%

Win division: 1.1%

Win wild card: 78.9%

Toronto Blue Jays

Make playoffs: 25.5%

Win division: 0.2%

Win wild card: 25.3%

The Rays will take the field Tuesday against the Red Sox with an 8.5-game lead over the Yankees in the AL East, while the Blue Jays will go for their sixth straight win when they continue their four-game series at Yankee Stadium.
