A Tuesday WNBA matchup sees two teams playing for different goals in mind. One already has a spot in postseason, and is trying to move up to a higher seed. The other is trying to will their way into the playoffs, as the Seattle Storm play host to the Washington Mystics.
The Storm have been slipping further and further down the standings since resuming action last month. No longer are they in a battle for the best regular season record. Now, they are simply trying to hold home court advantage. They coming into Tuesday with a 19-10 record, sitting fourth in the league, three games back of the league-leading Connecticut Sun, but only one game ahead of the rising Phoenix Mercury. Their win against the New York Liberty last Thursday snapped a three-game skid, their longest losing streak of the season.

The Mystics are fighting with the Liberty for the last playoff spot. In terms of games back of the leaders, they are tied at 11 games apiece. However, New York has the tiebreaker with more wins. The Mystics come into Seattle with a 10-17 record, and unfortunately their record on the road does not favor them on Tuesday. In 2021, Washington is 3-10 away from D.C. Their last win on the road came back when they beat the Chicago Sky on July 10.
