Cristiano Ronaldo wasted no time in getting acclimatised to life back at Manchester United's Carrington training base as he was given a guided tour by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - before he joined in with training ahead of making his debut.

The Portuguese forward, who has returned to United from Juventus on a two-year contract worth £385,000 a week, needed to spend five days in quarantine after arriving in the UK on Thursday.

Having taken a Day 2 test on Saturday, as well as a Day 5 test on Tuesday, Ronaldo was able to conclude his quarantine period as part of the NHS's test to release scheme, allowing him to join up with United.

The NHS Test to Release scheme is one option available to arrivals entering England from a country on the UK government's amber list, such as Portugal.

If not double vaccinated, a traveller is required to self-isolate for 10 days on arrival into the UK.

They must take Covid-19 tests on Day 2 as well as Day 8, with their arrival day counting as Day 0.

Test to Release includes a 'Day 5' additional test and a negative result from that ends the isolation, which is what Ronaldo did having arrived from Faro, Portugal, on Thursday.

Now out from isolation he met with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was a team-mate during his first spell at Old Trafford, and they had a conversation in the manager's office.

Ronaldo wasted no time in getting down to work either as he joined his team-mates for Tuesday's training session.

He sealed his sensational switch to the Red Devils in a £19.8million move from Juventus this summer, 12 years on from his departure for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

There is hope among supporters that Ronaldo can make his homecoming debut at Old Trafford this weekend on Saturday.

If he doesn't get his first start back at United on Saturday then he is expected to lead the line in the Champions League next Tuesday away to Young Boys.

In a bid to get down to work at United following his sensational summer move, Ronaldo was given early release from international duty with Portugal, days after breaking Ali Daei's international goals record.

The striker is suspended for Thursday's match against Azerbaijan and so was allowed to travel to England to begin quarantining.

He touched down in Manchester on Thursday following a flight from Faro, Portugal, along with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and their children Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, 11, Alana Martina dos Santos Aveiro, 3, Eva Maria Dos Santos, 4, and Mateo Ronaldo, 4.

Ronaldo was seen enjoying the Manchester sun on Sunday while he was in isolation

Having returned back to Manchester he has moved into a stunning mansion with his family.

Photographs from inside the mansion reveal a swimming pool, gym and cinema room which Ronaldo will be able to enjoy with his young family.

It is a seven-bedroom countryside property, with a top-of-the-range fitness area, hot tub and six-strong security patrol - which allowed him to relax during his five days in quarantine before joining club training.

Ronaldo is delighted to have returned 'home' and is no doubt itching to get back into the action as early as this weekend, despite less than a week in full team training.

After signing, Ronaldo told the United website: 'I have a fantastic history with this amazing club. I was there at 18 years old and of course I'm so happy to be back home after 12 years. So I'm really glad and looking forward to start my first game.

Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009 but returns to Manchester United from Juventus

'It's the best decision that I have made. It's a new chapter, I'm so happy and glad, and I want to carry on again, to make history, to try to help Manchester achieve great results, to win trophies and number one of them, to win great things.

'As I say before, I'm there in Manchester to help the team achieve results and the coach can count on me for whatever he wants. So I'm available for everything.'

And it's not just Ronaldo as his new team-mates have barely been able to contain their excitement about his return to Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba, while away on international duty with France hailed the signing and believes it can be a game-changer for United's younger players.

The French midfielder told Telefoot, via Get Football News France: 'It's always a pleasure to play with the best.

'It's also a plus for the players to be able to train with a great player. He's going to raise the level of the team.'

Speaking previously to Sky Sports, Pogba said: 'Everybody knows [what Ronaldo brings]. He's already a legend in this club and he's coming back, so obviously it's huge for us, for the club.

Ronaldo was given special dispensation to leave international duty with Portugal early having broken the men's international scoring record, so he could begin quarantining in Manchester

'He's going to bring his experience, his quality and obviously when he comes the level [of the team] goes up.'

United are reaping the rewards of what has been dubbed 'Ronaldomania' since his move was confirmed.

Fanatics, the club's retail partner, confirmed to Sportsmail's Sports Agenda that in just four hours following the announcement that the 36-year-old would wear the No 7 shirt, sales surpassed the highest for a day on a single sports merchandise site outside North America.

The first hour alone bettered the best ever full day of global sales for United Direct, the site that Fanatics operate, and at Old Trafford on Friday morning more than 200 people were queuing when the club's megastore opened at 10am.
