Former Cuomo aide, named in AG's report, fired from Human Rights Campaign

Andrew Cuomo (l) and Alphonso David
In February 2020, New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo was praised by the president of the Human Rights Campaign, Alphonso David. David previously served as a legal adviser to Cuomo. Now, critics on the political left and right are calling for both men to resign.

Former Cuomo administration aide Alphonso David was fired Monday night as president of the Human Rights Campaign. It comes after he was identified as one of the former members of then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s inner circle who helped the embattled Democrat fight sexual harassment claims.

David was named in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ report investigating the allegations, which ultimately led to Cuomo’s resignation.

On Twitter, the organization wrote its internal investigation found David “engaged in a number of activities in December 2020, while HRC president, to assist Governor Cuomo’s team in responding to allegations.”

The former counsel to the governor was asked to resign, but refused, which led the board to vote to terminate him. In his own tweet, David criticized the move and vowed a legal response.
