Meet the Mets
The Mets endured a crushing defeat to end their five-game series in DC, losing 4-3 to the Nationals on Labor Day. The two teams traded runs in the first and fourth, but both squads missed countless opportunities to capitalize. Trevor Williams was in and out of trouble but ended up tossing five solid innings. The Mets went ahead on a Pete Alonso solo homer in the sixth off Patrick Corbin, and the bullpen hurled three shutout innings to get to the final inning. In the ninth, Edwin Díaz coughed up two runs to blow his second straight save in Washington. The Mets now trail by four games in the National League East.

George Springer exited Toronto’s victory in a lot of pain.
The first-place Rays rallied to beat the Red Sox 11-10. In the win, Wander Franco reached base for the 36th consecutive game, tying Mickey Mantle’s American League mark for most by a player 20 years or younger.
The Royals scored two in the eighth to beat the Orioles 3-2.
The Twins topped Cleveland 5-2.
The Astros walloped the Mariners 11-2.
The Rangers shut out the Angels 4-0.

With the score knotted at five in the seventh, David Wright drove in the go-ahead run, and then scored a run later in the frame on Yoenis Cespedes’ double, which resulted in his iconic slide and fist pump.
