Microsoft Teams is widely used across multiple functional domains including organizational work, education, personal use, and the government. Its use and availability has become critical, especially for customers enrolled in Microsoft 365 programs. Microsoft realizes its importance, especially in the ongoing pandemic, and has started to integrate it in Windows 11 at an OS-level too.
As with most of its software that is used by millions of people across the globe, Microsoft regularly updates Teams with new features and improvements. Now, it appears that the company is working on a new capability that will allow chat supervisors to delete messages on Teams, as spotted first by MSPoweruser.
The feature can be seen in its "In development" status on the Teams product roadmap here. Although Microsoft hasn"t gone into too many details right now, it says that it will offer this capability to administrators so that they can remove inappropriate or off-topic discussion in a Teams chat. Microsoft says that it designed this feature with Education users in mind, but will be expanding it to all variants of Teams worldwide, including desktop, mobile, DoD, and GCC High.
It remains to be seen how this implementation will be carried out, but one can assume that there will be at least some indication that a message was deleted by a supervisor, to ensure that context is not lost and that there are fewer chances of miscommunication. We"ll likely find out more when the company rolls out this capability later this month.
