The driver of an electric bicycle is taken to a local hospital with serious life threatening injuries. That is after the cyclist struck the passenger side of a small pickup that was making a left turn. College Station police reported Tuesday’s (April 23) collision at George Bush and Holik, south of the Texas A&M campus, resulted in rerouting traffic on George Bush through the Southside neighborhood during the afternoon commute. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries. A CSPD spokesman said to his knowledge, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet.

A lifelong Bryan resident who was well known in business and public service has died. The death of Johnny Lampo was recognized at Tuesday’s (April 23) Brazos County commission meeting by county judge Duane Peters and commissioner Steve Aldrich. A remembrance given on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs by Scott DeLucia included Lampo’s popularity as an emcee, his service on the Bryan city council and Bryan ISD school board, and being part of the ownership group that brought the first Pizza Hut to Texas. Lampo’s obituary from Memorial Funeral Home in Bryan also says in 1947 opening with his father Lampo and Son Grocery and later went into Luke’s Grocery with his brother-in-law and sister, Luke and Jobey Ruffino. Staying with the grocery business, Johnny then acquired E-Z Way Drive-in Grocery. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Chape in Bryan on Wednesday (April 24) from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday (April 25) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Johnny Lampo was 98 years old.
