EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders' Sonia Fowler is one of the soap's most meme-d characters, with her iconic trumpet and, more recently, her slapping down Pauline just to name a few (and that's before you get into Natalie Cassidy and her brilliantly self-aware Instagram).

We reckon it's about time that Sonia gets a new love interest, and the people running the show do too, as she's about to get one. Huzzah!

In scenes set to air soon, Sonia goes with Tiffany Butcher-Baker to the gym to let off some steam boxercising, and Tiffany notices that a guy named Ethan has his eye on Sonia. Soon enough, Sonia books herself a date with the guy.

Although Sonia and Tiff are super excited, Rocky has his reservations. Is that because he knows something about Ethan, or is Rocky just trying to stir things up again? Maybe it's both.

Sonia has had many relationships on EastEnders over the years. There's been Martin, Jamie Mitchell, fellow nurse Naomi, Tina Carter and teacher Gethin, who was also having a thing with Sonia's daughter Bex.

Could Sonia have something special with this Ethan, or will it be over before it's really begun? We'd like to see her find happiness with someone, but her track record isn't the greatest...

EastEnders has also revealed details about the return of Stacey Slater now that Lacey Turner is done with her maternity leave. Her comeback is tied in with the departure of Ruby Allen, who is making a temporary exit now that Louisa Lytton is going on maternity leave.

EastEnders airs Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and Friday.

Joe Anderton

Joe Anderton is a freelance news writer and resident Welsh person at Digital Spy, having worked there since 2016.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
