LeBron James is The King. He's been the best player in the NBA for many, many years. At this point, however, it looks like his time as the top dog has come. At least this is according to LeBron's former teammate in Kendrick Perkins.

In a recent interview, Perkins revealed why he believes it's time that LeBron gives up the title of being the top player in the NBA. Perk is adamant that right now, this honor belongs to Kevin Durant:

“Here’s the thing, Kevin Durant is the best player in the world, and it’s about damn time somebody dethrone King James from being the best player in the world,” Perkins said, via Peter Dewey of Lakers Daily.

“We’re talking about a guy that’s going on Year 19. I don’t really know if LeBron James even cares about being the best player in the world anymore, going on at the age of 37, right? So, it’s about time that somebody finally stepped up to the plate and dethrone him because he’s been carrying the torch for so long.”

Perkins makes it sound as if being the best player in the game is such a burden for LeBron. Well, there might actually be some truth to this considering how the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is now nearly a decade into his illustrious career.

Perkins firmly believes that Kevin Durant is the best of the best at the moment. Based on what we saw from the Brooklyn Nets star last season, it's actually hard to deny Perks' statement here.

Be that as it may, is LeBron now in a position to concede that he is no longer the best in the game? Does he actually have that in him? I guess we'll have to see this season.
