Update: Missing women found after fatal car accident

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) Update Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1:33 p.m. — The West Virginia State Police have released information about the two women who went missing over Labor Day weekend.

Police say on Monday, Sept. 6, Brenda Curry, 81, of Cross Lanes and her daughter, Wanda McClung, 56, were found in a remote area near Wirt and Ritchie Counties. They appeared to have been involved in a traffic accident.

Curry died due to her injuries at the scene.

McClung was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Wirt County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the accident but does not suspect foul play.


CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – We have an update to a story we brought you over the weekend about two women who went missing last Thursday. 

A source confirms Brenda Curry, 81, and her daughter, Wanda McClung, 56, were found in a remote area near Wirt and Ritchie Counties. They appeared to have been involved in a traffic accident.

We do not have any confirmation about their conditions, but we expect to hear more from the police in the morning.  

The women left Cross Lanes in a green Chevy Cruz and were headed to Ritchie County to pick up Curry’s granddaughter.
