SAN ANTONIO -- In what could have been a tragic accident this Labor Day weekend, ended in an early newborn blessing for a San Antonio couple.
A short trip to the convenient store on Saturday led to a head-on collision which involved expecting parents Erica Heredia and David Smith.
The crash landed the two in the ER at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital.
Heredia's expected delivery date was in late September, but doctors determined it was best for her to go into labor earlier due to injuries she had from the crash.
The couple welcomed their new, healthy baby boy Saturday, just in time for Labor Day. Zacari Smith, weighed in at 6 lbs., 14 ounces and had a full head of hair.
"We're lucky to be alive and the doctors took such good care of us here and our baby is perfectly healthy even though he came a few days earlier than expected,' Heredia said.
