Max Scherzer Continues Torrid Streak With Labor Day Gem for Dodgers

Max Scherzer continues torrid streak with Labor Day gem for Dodgers originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Since getting dealt to Los Angeles at the trade deadline with teammate Trea Turner, Max Scherzer has been better than the Dodgers could have been imagined. Per Dodger Insider, Scherzer has a 1.05 ERA, 63 strikeouts and five walks over seven starts for Los Angeles. For the season, Scherzer leads MLB with a 2.28 ERA.

Arguably his best start for the Dodgers came on Labor Day, as he pitched eight innings while allowing just six hits, one run (not earned), zero walks and 13 strikeouts. Thirteen. Monday's strikeout total set a new high for him as a Dodger, surpassing his previous high of 11. Los Angeles would beat the Cardinals on the road, 5-1.

Scherzer commented on his league-leading ERA after Monday's win.

“It’s awesome, but don’t get caught up in results. Focus on the process. Results take care of themselves,” the three-time Cy Young Award winner said. “The results—they’re great when you get ‘em, but I’m more focused on the process and that’s, for me, going out there and throwing strikes and throwing strikes for all my pitches.”

Scherzer has helped position the Dodgers for another deep playoff run as they'll look to become the first World Series champions to repeat since the 2000 Yankees. Los Angeles currently sits second in the NL West, trailing San Francisco by one game.
