EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders fans will see Phil's life left hanging in the balance next week, as the fire rages from the Mitchell household.

This Friday's episode will end on an explosive cliffhanger, when Tommy and Scarlett unwittingly start a fire amid Janine's return drama.

In the moments before that, Shirley will leave Phil unconscious when they come to blows over his involvement in Ian's attack last Christmas – and the subsequent effect she believes it's had on Tina's disappearance.

Janine quickly finds Scarlett and Tommy in Tommy's bedroom upstairs, but he locks the door and tosses the key straight down a crack in the floorboards.

With the three of them now trapped in the bedroom, they panic when they realise there's a fire spreading and grapple to find the key fast.

Meanwhile, Phil is lying unconscious with flames surrounding him and struggles to breathe when he eventually wakes up.

On the Square, Ben and Callum are horrified to spot the flames. When they get closer, their fears intensify when they realise that the fire is engulfing the house and is getting dangerously close to a gas canister.

As everyone rushes to their aid, an explosion goes off.

Fans will have to wait and see what this means for Tommy, Janine, Scarlet and Phil, but first-look pictures have already revealed that Gray and Kheerat will be teaming up for a heroic rescue.

When Kheerat spots the fire breaking out as well, he and Gray join forces to help. After rushing inside the house, Gray and Kheerat head upstairs – prior to the explosion. But will they make it out alive?
