Episode 3 of The Walking Dead Season 11, titled “Hunted,” throws viewers into a first-person perspective with shaky and erratic filming of how chaotic it is to be hunted and killed by The Reapers. As we jump from Maggie to Daryl and Dog and Negan, several other characters are killed, captured, or missing as escaping seems nearly impossible.

The group is separated at the worst possible time, and for now, we follow Maggie’s journey of survival without her friends.

As Maggie finds refuge inside an unfinished mall, she realizes The Reapers will not leave her be. She is nearly killed before Negan comes to her aid along with Alden, who becomes severely wounded.

The three of them have no idea where the rest went. However, Maggie wants to continue onward against Negan’s concerns. They don’t know that Father Gabriel is alive, wounded, and showing no mercy to one of the dying Reapers.

The three make it outside and follow the screams of a woman who turns out to be Agatha. She joins the trio after Duncan dies from his wounds, and the never-ending bickering between Negan and Maggie continues.

If they didn’t know whom they were dealing with, they found a walker who was tied and seemingly burned alive to a tree with the word “JUDAS” above its head. Could this be a hint that The Reapers are a religious extremist group or cult?

After all, they could have simply written the word “TRAITOR” but chose something more specific and downright chilling. Agatha doesn’t survive as walkers close in, and the trio finds temporary shelter in an abandoned church.

While there, Alden begs Maggie to go on without him. At first, she refuses to, but after arguing with Negan, she agrees with him, leaving Alden with some weapons and food.

Now it is just Maggie and Negan to complete the mission.

With food resources dwindling and Maggie’s group yet to return, Carol makes it her mission to find and bring back several horses. Even though Aaron thinks it’s a futile mission, Carol doesn’t want to give up.

She, Kelly, Magna, and Rosita decide to work together to retrieve the horses. On their mission, Kelly and Carol share the hope that Connie is still alive and Rosita confides in Carol the dreams she’s been having of Abraham.

When the four fail to capture one horse, they take a route near water, where walkers have unfortunately killed several other horses. But all hope is not lost as Rosita spots a few, and sure enough, many are still alive.

The four women follow them to a farm and are able to bring them home successfully. But before the citizens of Alexandria can celebrate this minor victory, Carol decidedly kills one of the horses so that there is food for them to eat.

On top of that, Magna doesn’t appreciate Carol filling Kelly’s head with the hope that Connie is still alive when she and the rest are trying to cope with the fact that she is most likely dead.

As the citizens are trying to rebuild the walls around Alexandria, children Judith, Gracie, R.J, and Hershel Jr. all hang out throughout the day, playing cards and discussing mature topics. They are mostly coming to terms with the fact their parents are always out protecting them and the people they love.

They know that sometimes it’s not guaranteed that they will return but remain hopeful. We later see them eat the horse meat with slight hesitation but understanding the need to survive at all costs.

While these moments are brief in the episode, they are nice interruptions from Maggie’s grim situation and the seemingly impossible tasks Carol has taken.

The Walking Dead Season 11, Episode 3 takes small storylines and combines them into one episode.

While the opening is very dramatic and tension-filled, and there are times where you are sitting on the edge of your seat, there is not much to say about this episode other than what was mentioned above.

Maggie still cannot agree to anything Negan says, even when he is right. When she does finally agree, it’s not without constant objections. Obviously, because Maggie was not present during the time of The Whisperers, she will never accept him for other than the man who killed her husband.

In all honesty, she’s letting the past affect the present, and if she doesn’t listen to him soon, she won’t survive.

Alden’s unknown fate was emotional for multiple reasons. Is it foolish to think he will somehow survive or to be overly confident that he will perish?

The search for retrieving horses was a lighter storyline, but even when the horses are retrieved, one still had to be killed so the citizens of Alexandria could eat. It’s debatable whether Carol was being logical or stubborn to chase the horses when Aaron continually has to remind everyone of the importance of getting the walls back up.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see a walker horde come through very soon and kill many citizens because no one will listen to him. As for the children, it was something different but in a good way.

The children are getting a little older and becoming wiser than most at that age. Whether they know it or not, they will be the future of this apocalypse.

It’s reassuring to see them already coming to grips with very dark and unfortunate things while remaining hopeful and innocent.
