Microsoft has published the first element of Android app support for Windows 11. Initially listed as being compatible with Xbox consoles, the app works with Windows 10, too. Both references are seemingly erroneous, but compatibility for the version of Windows 11 that is shipping on October 5 could be on the cards.

Microsoft may have delayed Android app integration in Windows 11, but the first signs of support have emerged. Windows Subsystem for Android will arrive in Windows Insider Preview Programme builds eventually, but Microsoft has not stated when people will be able to run Android apps in stable versions of Windows 11.

For some reason, Microsoft has published a Windows Subsystem for Android app on the Windows Store. Initially, the Windows Store listing pointed to support for the Xbox One, which Microsoft was quick to shoot down. Android app support on Xbox consoles would be a strange one, in our opinion, as so few apps are optimised for large displays such as TVs.

Another error appears to the reference to 'Windows 10 version 22000.63'. The Windows 11 Insider Preview Programme started at Build 22000.51, so we imagine that Microsoft will only extend Windows Subsystem for Android support to Windows 11, not Windows 10 also.

The Windows Subsystem for Android app does nothing, currently. However, the reference to builds 22000 is encouraging, as it implies that app support will be compatible with the current version of Windows 11 shipping on October 5. Microsoft has already moved onto Build 22249 for machines on the Insider Preview Programme's Dev channel, which will be Windows 11's next major update.
