Week 1 is in the books for Oregon football and if you’re anything like me, you came away disappointed that things were as close as they were against Fresno State.

The Ducks raced out to a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter and it seemed as if they were on their way to a blowout win, but Fresno State closed the gap and ultimately took a lead. The Bulldogs held a three-point lead in the fourth quarter until a fumble led to the tying field goal and then Anthony Brown put the game away thanks to his legs with under three minutes left.

Oregon held on for an important win to start the season, especially when you consider which opponent awaits in Week 2 for the Ducks.

Let’s dive into some hot takes of mine from the opener.

3. Justin Flowe is an All-American

Justin Flowe had himself a heck of a debut in an Oregon uniform, recording a team-high 14 tackles with a tackle for loss, and forced fumble.

And it felt like he was just getting started.

It felt like Flowe was in on every tackle and sniffed out the ball-carrier on each possession. He played with an aggression that the defense needed and helped come up with big stops until the final whistle. He was a force and even though he nearly got called for targeting which would have forced him to miss the second half, he looked like a budding superstar.

I’ve been saying it all along, Flowe is a special talent and he could find himself on the All-American team at the end of the season.

Flowe missed an entire freshman year with a meniscus injury and stepped onto the field for the first time and recorded 14 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. That’s wild.
