For the last week or so, ever since news broke that Ben Simmons had officially requested a trade out of Philadelphia, the world has been speculating where the 3x NBA All-Star and 2x All-Defensive player will end up.
From the Warriors to the Timberwolves to the Kings to the Spurs to even the Clippers, plenty of teams have reportedly shown interest in Ben Simmons, but there could be a few dark-horse teams out there pursuing him.
They did take down Simmons and the 76ers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, but what about the Atlanta Hawks? Trae Young is the leader of this team, and they just signed John Collins to a new five-year, $125M deal, but can this Hawks team actually contend for a spot in the NBA Finals, or was last season just a fluke?
When you look at their roster as a whole, the Hawks clearly have one of the better young cores in the league, but they also have a really great balance with their veteran and experienced talents.

Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Clint Capela, Delon Wright, and Lou Williams are all experienced veteran players in this league, and heading into the 2021-22 season, each of these guys is expected to hold a key role in the team’s game plan.
Overall, the Hawks still need another key talent to pair with Trae Young because he alone cannot take this team to the NBA Finals. John Collins is an excellent young talent, but he is not that second All-Star-like talent the Hawks need.
