The Tampa Bay Rays went down early on Monday to the Boston Red Sox as Ryan Yarbrough gave up seven runs in just two innings of work. However, the Rays shrunk that deficit in the fourth inning off a wild, whacky, Little League grand slam off the bat of Nelson Cruz.

Chris Sale was absolutely dominating until he loaded the bases and got Cruz to hit a fly ball to center field. However, Alex Verdugo dropped the ball, and somehow, someway, Cruz ran across all the bases and cleared the bases.

Oh, and all this happened with two outs. Sale retired the first two Rays batters in the inning before giving up three straight singles to load the bases. Enter Nelson Cruz, who came over to the Rays at the deadline, and cleared the bases on just an absurd play that probably will never happen to Cruz again.

The Rays might have shot some hope into their dugout on this play, and surely Cruz must be insanely gassed after running around the bases at that speed. The American League East, as a division, has potentially three playoff teams with the Red Sox and Yankees currently holding the two wild card spots.

Nonetheless, this Nelson Cruz grand slam was truly wild.
