HUNTSVILLE | Two goals in the final seven minutes of regulation propelled The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 win over visiting Eckerd on Sunday evening at Charger Park. UAH improves to 1-0-1 on the year with the victory, while Eckerd falls to 0-2-0.
Â
With the Chargers trailing 2-1 late, the team would earn a corner in the 84th, and
Ethan Wilson's header off the kick from
Colby Nesbit would be re-directed past the Triton keeper off the head of
Shalev Keter to tie the contest at 2-2.Â
Â
The tying goal would set up the dramatics that would come five minutes later in the 89th when
Kieran Rowe made a nice move at the top of the box and fed it through two Eckerd defenders to
Rafa Moreno, and Moreno would take on touch to his right before firing it across his body towards the far post and in for the game-winning tally.
Â
Moreno now has nine game-winners during his time in Huntsville, and the strike marks his 38th career goal and is his 26th in the Blue and White.
Â
Keter's goal is his first of the year and third in Huntsville, and the assists for both Nesbit and Rowe represent their first collegiate points.
Â
UAH started the scoring in the game when Sander van der Sluijs scored in the 27th minute with
Michael Weston and
Vicente Arratia picking up the assists, but the visitors would tie the game up just five minutes later in the 32nd to produce a 2-1 score at the half.
Â
Eckerd's second shot on goal came in the 51st, and it would also result in a goal to give the Tritons the 2-1 lead they would carry through until the closing minutes of the game.
Â
The Chargers outshot Eckerd by a 15-5 margin including holding a 7-2 edge in attempts that were on target, and van der Sluijs led the home side in attempts with three.Â
Â
UAH also enjoyed a 4-1 edge in corners.
Â
The next four games for UAH all come on the road, starting on Friday when the team travels to the Peach State for a showdown at North Georgia. Kick-off in Dahlonega is slated for 4 p.m. CT.
