Romine was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Romine saw minimal time in the starting lineup during his time on the active roster, and he'll now be cast off the 40-man roster after David Bote (ankle) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday. The 35-year-old appeared in 26 games with the major-league club and hit .183 with a homer, seven runs and five RBI.
