BOSTON — The Red Sox announced six roster moves before their game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.
Boston signed infielder José Iglesias to a major league contract and added him to the active roster.
The Red Sox activated Josh Taylor from the COVID-related IL and selected reliever Michael Feliz from Triple-A Worcester.
They also optioned infielder Jack López and pitchers Kutter Crawford and John Schreiber to Worcester.
Boston was able to sign Iglesias — who played for the Red Sox from 2011-13 — after the Angels released him Sept. 3.
Iglesias batted .259 with a .295 on-base percentage, .375 slugging percentage, .670 OPS, eight homers, 23 doubles, one triple and 41 RBIs in 114 games (447 plate appearances) for the Angels this year.
Known for being a slick defender at shortstop, Iglesias’ defensive metrics have tailed off this year. He’s worst in Defensive Runs Saved (negative-21) among all major league fielders.
This will be Feliz’s first stint with Boston in 2021. Boston signed him to a minor league contract Aug. 28 after the Reds released him.
The 28-year-old Dominican Republic native pitched in 16 games for the Pirates and Reds this season, posting a 8.79 ERA (14 ⅓ innings, 14 earned runs). He struck out 17 and walked five (10.7 K/9, 3.1 BB/9).
Feliz has appeared in 222 big league games for the Astros, Pirates and Reds. He made 46 relief appearances for the Astros in 2017 when Red Sox manager Alex Cora served as Houston’s bench coach.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder has a 5.38 ERA, 4.07 FIP and 1.41 WHIP in 241 innings. He posted a 3.47 FIP in 93 outings for the Astros in 2016-17 combined.
