Kyle Busch nearly hits people in pit area after Darlington crash (Video)

Frustrated after getting crashed out at Darlington Raceway; Busch drove through cones in the garage area, braking hard to avoid people walking

Update: NASCAR driver Kyle Busch fined $50,000

On Sunday night, NASCAR visited Darlington Raceway. It was the opening race in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

Early in the race, Austin Dillon worked inside of Kyle Busch in turn two. As they track narrowed in turn two, Dillon got loose on the bottom.

Dillon chased his car up the banking and clipped Busch in the process. The No. 18 car was sent into the outside wall. The rear deck lid and spoiler were completely knocked off.

Busch was called to the garage. As he turned into the garage, he drove right through a block of five cones.

Behind the cones, were NASCAR team members and officials. Busch had to come to an abrupt and near complete stop as people were crossing.

A NASCAR official was meeting him there to tell the driver that he needed to get checked out at the infield care center. But, Busch walked into his hauler with his helmet on, never seeing the official.

A few minutes later, Busch exited the hauler in street clothes. He was transported to the care center via a golf cart for a quick observation.

“It’s killed,” Kyle Busch told his crew over the team radio.

At the track, NASCAR said Kyle Busch would not be called to the NASCAR hauler following the incident. However, everything is under review on Monday.

Kyle Busch comments

“It wasn’t the 3’s fault. Just take our lumps, you know,” Busch said.

“We were running like shit and got wrecked, so that’s what you get when you run like shit. It just shouldn’t be there.”

“I don’t know what our problem is, but every time we go to sim and use sim and think we have a good sim session, we go to the race track and we suck. So I’m done with that, and we’ll have to use some other tools in figuring out how to be good, but the M&M’s Camry was not very good and we’re running terrible and we got wrecked. It wasn’t the 3’s fault.”

When asked to look ahead at favorable tracks.

“Who cares?” Busch responded. “We get what we get.”

Joe Gibbs

NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs went to victory lane with Denny Hamlin. However, his other three cars had issues throughout the night. Truex was also able to rebound after being sent to the tail late in the race.

“Well, I think everybody in the sport — he’s been through the Playoffs a number of times. We have, and it’s extremely tough,” Gibbs said.

“You’ve got three races, it’s like the whole playoffs. The thing that probably helped us some, it seemed like a lot of cars that were in the (playoffs) had issues.”

Gibbs added, “And so I haven’t seen where the points are or anything, but this is going to be a hard-fought deal for the next two weeks. I think that’s probably what the fans like.”
