Over the last year we've seen the difference we can all make when we work with purpose.

Sgt. Nicole Gee, of Roseville, posted a beautiful photo of herself in uniform and holding a baby in Kabul days before she was killed in an attack in Afghanistan. Four words she wrote in the caption, "I love my job," will bring honor to those who serve long after her death. The compassion and purpose she brought to her work makes us think of all who choose to serve and sacrifice for others. We think of volunteer firefighter Richard Gerety from the Modesto area, who is now hospitalized with significant burns, and all the firefighters on the front lines for days, weeks, even months at a time protecting people and their homes. Over the last year, we've seen the difference we can all make when we work with purpose. The health care workers who continue to save lives every day throughout the pandemic. Teachers welcoming their students back to in-person learning, helping them adjust to a new environment. Grocery store workers, flight attendants and postal workers. Everyone is doing their part. From the home to the front lines, we see their impact and sacrifice.
