Kristaps Porzingis considered “likely” to be traded by the Mavs

Kristaps Porzingis, Dallas Mavericks, NBA Trade Rumors

The Dallas Mavericks have been mentioned in a ton of NBA trade rumors this offseason. Most of those rumors have surrounded star big man Kristaps Porzingis, although the Mavs have not made a move involving him yet. In fact, even with all of the rumors, the franchise has yet to enter serious trade discussions involving Porzingis.

As of right now, the Mavs seem to want to hold on to Porzingis to see how he fits with new head coach Jason Kidd. Kidd has been open and honest about his belief that Luka Doncic and Porzingis can play perfectly alongside each other.

Despite all of those rumors, Porzingis came in at the No. 2 spot in the rankings of players most likely to be traded by Sir Charles In Charge.

The big question is whether or not a vast trade market will emerge. If there was one, I’m under the belief that Kristaps likely would’ve already been traded. Nevertheless, as the Mavs look to make an upgrade at some point soon, expect Kristaps to find his name in the rumor mill once again.

During the 2020-21 NBA season with the Mavericks, Porzingis had an up-and-down season. His numbers looked solid, but he was unable to make a major impact in the playoffs. That led to instant trade rumors.

Porzingis ended the regular season averaging 20.1 points per game to go along with 8.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks. He shot 47.6 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 37.6 percent of his three-point attempts. Those numbers show just how good and valuable Porzingis is capable of being.

Granted, all of this is an opinion from a writer, but it is definitely something to keep an eye on. If he starts the season off strong, other teams could pick up their interest in trading for him. Porzingis is a key piece for the Mavs right now, but he could very well be expendable for the right price.

Dallas put together a solid all-around offseason, but they did not add a third star like they were hoping. Kyle Lowry was the biggest target for the Mavericks, but he ended up signing with the Miami Heat. Instead, the Mavs went out and re-signed Tim Hardaway Jr. and then signed Sterling Brown and Reggie Bullock, while also acquiring big man Moses Brown in a trade.

Kristaps Porzingis may not be active in trade talks right now, but as the NBA trade deadline draws closer, that could very well change. He is a name to watch this season in trade discussions.
