The Blues are eager to tie down the 25-year-old defender to a long-term deal following his impressive start to the season.

And the defender, who was one of Chelsea's stand-out stars in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool, has given his biggest hint yet that he'll be staying at Stamford Bridge.

Christensen, whose current agreement expires next summer, is poised to pen a new deal until 2026.

When quizzed about his future by Danish paper BT.DK Christensen said: "I don't want to say too much, but I think it is looking good.

"It's hard to tell what it's going to end up with, there is a lot of talk. But I am happy to be at Chelsea."

Christensen's had a stunning reversal in fortune since last summer when he looked to be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit.

Following two difficult seasons at the club, which saw the Denmark international only make six starts under ex-boss Maurizio Sarri, his future looked bleak.

And Christensen didn't fare much better when Frank Lampard became the Blues boss for a brief spell before Thomas Tuchel's arrival in January.

He continued: "It's no secret that I had a difficult period before Frank Lampard left the club. Back then things looked different."

But since Tuchel took charge, the centre-back has been a new man and helped the West London side reach the FA Cup final last season, and win the Champions League against Manchester City.

Although he's aware that things change quickly in football so you have to be prepared for the worst.

Christensen added: "But since then we have won the Champions League and European Super Cup, and the best players have come to the Premier League.

"So I feel like I am in the right place. I'm happy to be at Chelsea, because we are winning trophies and I am playing a big part.

"It is super cool to play a major part, and be in the thick of things.

"But, as I have experienced, things can change quickly.

"Suddenly some other players can perform well or be given a chance, and then I can end up in the cold again."

Christensen joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Danish club Brondby in 2012.

He has since made 131 senior Blues appearances despite competition from a raft of costly and high-profile signings.
