We're seeing record low prices on older OLED panels as well as some handy bundle options available at Best Buy. Walmart is coming in a little slower, but bargain hunters will be pleased with discounts on more entry level sets. When do Labor Day TV sales begin?
Labor Day will land on Monday September 4 this year, so we can be assured that TV discounts will be piling in on the day itself. However, we generally see these annual sales kicking off from around a week before the main event. That means we're expecting early discounts from the last week of August with things really ramping up from Friday September 1.

The trick to finding the best Labor Day TV sales is starting your search in the right place. There are going to be plenty of retailers offering discounts on shiny new panels this year, but there are a few select stores that go bigger and better than anyone else. Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart all have decent coverage across the price spectrum, but the prices in which they offer their best value differs. Amazon for example, can be readily relied upon for cheaper Fire displays and older LG and Samsung models for under $500, but struggles to compete in the mid-range. OLED and QLED panels can drop to their lowest ever prices here, though, so don't sleep on the online retail giant if you're looking to spend big.
Best Buy covers everything from super cheap $100 - $200 models to the latest and greatest four-figure sets. Value is solid across the full spectrum, but we do look to the $300 - $600 range first at Best Buy. That cost, combined with regular free subscription offers means this is the best place to start for the majority of buyers.
Walmart also stocks a good supply of high-end TVs, but its in its budget options that things really get going. You'll find super cheap Toshiba, Sceptre, and Philips screens readily available here, with a range that even Amazon and Best Buy can't compete with.
Then we have Samsung. Samsung is only going to make sense if you're after a flagship panel - something you're really invested in. The brand's own retail store focuses its efforts on blindingly expensive (but heavily discounted) 8K and NeoQLED displays for a big headline-grabbing impact. That means you'll only find value here if you've got a lot of cash to splash on your new screen.

Should you buy a TV on Labor Day?
If you've decided to grab a new TV before the holidays, there's only one thing stopping you diving into this year's Labor Day TV sales. Unfortunately, it's a pretty big thing. Black Friday TV deals are legendary - and considering the scope and sheer discounts we can see in November it's understandable that the question of holding off is going to be a big one.
However, last year we actually saw a similar level of discounts across both sales. For example, a super budget 32-inch HD Sceptre TV was $98 at Walmart during both Black Friday and Labor Day TV sales. A 48-inch LG OLED A1 was actually cheaper over Labor Day, with a $665 sales price compared to Black Friday's $796 - both at Amazon.
On the other hand, the 43-inch Amazon Fire 4K ran you around $300 in last year's Labor Day sales, but took an extra $90 off that price for November's event. Aside from a few outliers, though, the value is generally consistent across both sales - so there's little need to panic about seeing your new display an extra $200 cheaper in a couple of months time.
How to find the best Labor Day TV deals

1. Price match using the official SKU
Retailers often automatically match their prices with their competitors. However, some stores can offer wildly different costs, especially if they're less well known. This is the official model name that relates only to the TV you are interested in and will usually be listed after the brand, or further down the page in the specs or features section. TVs come with a lot of iterations, so it's important you make sure you're picking up the right one.

Different stores specialize in different areas. Amazon, for example, rarely offers discounts on mid-range displays but excels in cheaper Fire-enabled TVs like Insignia and Toshiba models. However, Newegg and B&H Photo are more concerned with the premium experience, often bundling additional extras like soundbars and warranty care into big price tag items like OLED and QLED TVs.
